Promote Organ DonationThere is a critical organ shortage: despite continuing advances in medicine and technology, the demand for organs drastically exceeds the number of organ donors. You can make the difference in someone's life by helping to increase organ donation. U.S. Waiting List Compared To Transplants PerformedThe chart below shows the number of candidates on the waiting list at year end compared to the number of transplants performed by year from January 1, 1996 - December 31, 2005.
"Candidates on the waiting list" based on OPTN/SRTR Data as of May 1, 2006. "Number of Transplants" based on currrent OPTN data as reported on November 14, 2008. Data subject to change based on future data submission or correction.
